My son's Lego Creations, Pure Imagination, and being a Father

I don’t know about you, but if you’re like me you love to see the creative side of your children. Sometimes my kids say the strangest things, and other times they just blow me away with a random thought or a question that I can’t seem to answer. Riley, my oldest, has got some mad skillz when it comes to building Lego’s. He is a pretty bright kid and always keeps me on my toes. This morning he made these two pieces of lego art without any instructions…  just pure imagination!

I find it a challenge as a parent to keep up with these little thinkers. As a father, I am doing my best to show them what is right and train them up in the Lord. I want God to use them each in distinctive ways, taking their gifts and using them for HIS purpose instead of their own.

As I enjoy taking these videos and watching them over and over again, it is also a reminder that I MUST be on my game. Knowing how my kids think, understanding how they tick, and then channeling that to honor God is something that HE has entrusted to me, and I don’t want to take that for granted. WHEW!!! Parenting can be tough, but I have to say I wouldn’t trade it for the world!!!!

Just a normal Sunday afternoon at my parents

On Sundays in the afternoon we sometimes go over to my parents house. They have one of the most beautiful homes in Augusta Ga. Feeding the ducks is a must, but today the Seagulls showed up.

My New Run Mix "Lutetium Metal"

This past week I've been busily going through my iTunes library trying to find the perfect run mix. I've asked people what their favorites are and I've taken notes! Thanks to iPhone apps like Pandora and Last.fm, I've found some new stuff as well. You don't have to have an iPhone to listen to these "make your own stations" so go out there and try them out! I don't know how long I'll run to this one mix, but I gotta say it worked for my 14+ miler yesterday! I call the Playlist Lutetium Metal

1. You wont Relent - Kim Walker
2. Hunger Strike - Temple of the Dog
3. Uprising - Muse
4. Where you Go I Go - Jesus Culture
5. The Next Movement - The Roots
6. We Cry Out - Kim Walker
7. Holding Nothing Back - Jesus Culture
8. We Stand - Lee McDerment
9. Light of Your Face - Kim Walker
10. I'm Shipping Up to Boston - Dropkick Murphys
11. Outshined - Soundgarden
13. Revelation Song - Jesus Culture
14. Today - Smashing Pumpkins
15. You Got Me - The Roots
16. Dance with Me - Chris Quilala
17. I Gotta Feeling - Black Eyed Peas
18. Holy - Jesus Culture
19. Savin Me - Nickleback
20. Ask You Why - Phish
22. Your Love Never Fails - Chris Quilala

Change in schedule, counting calories, and asking questions #ironman

I have been booking more travel for work in the last few days and I am nervous about the effect it will have on my training. I think I get so used to my routes and my morning routines that I take for granted how easy I have it. I work for a Software Company and one of the nice things about my job is I work remotely. I have a ManCave in the backyard where I do most of my work when not on the road. The ManCave is filled with all my gear too, and it takes little but no time to set up the trainer and ride for an hour or just jet out the door and run a half a dozen miles when I want. My commute is less than 8 seconds and I love it! Don’t be jealous!

I see myself in the next few months going all over the place, and it hasn’t really hit me yet until today. My new “out of the office-workout schedule” is something I need to give attention too. I need to get prepared, and be happy even though I won’t have all my comforts. No wife and kids… that will be REAL hard. Not to mention, Rachel is the bomb when it comes to feeding me. I eat well. I hate travel food. It will take a lot of preparation to find the right places and eat the right things. I will so miss my bed too. Rachel and I  inherited this old 18th century queen bed. It is the most comfortable thing in the world. Oh yea, did I mention I will miss my wife! Here are a couple other things I am a bit nervous about:

·         No bike when I travel, it’s just too freaking expensive to board on the plane. So, working out on a machine will be new to me. Haven’t ever done that so that will be a first.

·         YMCA’s are nice, but do I have to do every work out there? It gets old working out in a building. Treadmill running is so mundane!!! Guess we will see.

For those of you that travel and train for races, what are some things that help you stay out of the hotel after long days with prospects and clients? What kind of food prep do you take, so you aren’t eating massive calories?
